Class Information

All classes take place on The University of North Texas campus and align with the semesters of the university’s academic calendar. Classes are primarily taught by UNT string music education majors along with the close supervision of a university faculty member, Dr. Elizabeth Petersen, and graduate student Master Teachers. Our catalog of classes is designed to accommodate string students at all levels of playing and provide musical experiences beyond what students may be learning in their school orchestra program.

For most String Project classes, registration includes the weekly group classes, but families have the option to add on additional private instruction packages. Private lessons allow students the opportunity to work one-on-one with a String Project instructor, focusing on improving their technique and playing in a manner that is entirely individualized to their learning.

GROUP CLASSES (VIOLIN, VIOLA, CELLO)
Students have the option to either provide their own instrument (via rental at a local shop) or rent one from the UNT String Project (subject to availability). More information regarding instruments can be found at the bottom of this page.

Concert Orchestra (Grade 4 and up with less than 2 years of string instrument experience)

Sinfonia (Grade 4 and up with 2 or more years of string instrument experience)

This class will focus on music reading, ensemble skills, and continued development of instrumental technique and repertoire needed to play in an advanced ensemble. Students will meet once per week in a group format and with a private instructor (either via Zoom or in-person) 4 times during each semester.
