Graduate Assistantships

A limited number of Teaching Fellowships (TF) and Teaching Assistantships (TA) awards are available to students each year.  Teaching Fellowships are for those who instruct classes and serve as the primary instructor.  Such courses may include teaching elementary methods classes for non-majors, introductory music education classes, student teaching supervision, or instrumental technique classes (brass and woodwind).  Teaching Assistant awards may vary from 10-20 hours of work per week.  Positions may include serving as a research assistant, working with the

Early Childhood Music Program, working with the New Horizons Senior Band, or overseeing the Music Education Resource Room.
Interested students must apply for Teaching Fellowships and Teaching Assistantships.  In addition to a stipend, students also receive in-state tuition if they hold a full Teaching Fellowship or Teaching Assistantship.  For further questions, you may contact the Chair of Music Education, Dr. Sean Powell, at (940) 565-3713 or by email at Sean.Powell@unt.edu.  You may also contact our Coordinator of the PHD program Don Taylor at (940) 565-3745, Don.Taylor@unt.edu.
