String Project News & Info

Changes coming to String Project in the Fall of 2016!

As the String Project evolves, it will be taking on new avenues for advanced teaching in string technique and musical learning. This will include a Private Lesson or Small Pod Program that provides individual and small group instruction to better enhance the String Project experience. Private of Small Pod Lessons will be required for Level 1 & 2 participants, and suggested for subsequent levels. Lessons are also available a la carte, without participation in larger group classes.

The format for Sring Project 2016-2017 large group classes will be as follows:

  • Level 1$100 per semester. Beginning level string players, no previous music knowledge necessary. Private or Small Pod Lessons required.
    • Tuesdays, 4:30-5:30 pm
    • Wednesdays, 5:00-6:00 pm
  • Level 2$100 per semester. Students who were previously in String Project Level 1 or by audition. Students will continue with developing technique, repertoire, and a solid foundation with their posture and bow holds. Private or Small Pod Lessons required.
    • Wednesdays, 4:00-5:00 pm
    • Thursdays, 4:30-5:30 pm
  • Intermediate: $100 per semester. Students who have some knowledge of playing their instrument. They must have a good foundation of correct instrument posture and bow hold, consistent intonation (playing in tune), and playing with good tone. This class will focus on note reading and pre-orchestra ensemble skills.
    • Tuesdays, 4:30-5:30 pm
    • Wednesdays, 4:00-5:00 pm
  • Concertino Orchestra$100 per semester. Students must have a good foundation of correct instrument posture and bow hold, consistent intonation (playing in tune), playing with good tone, and sight-reading Grade 1 (UIL prescribed music list) orchestral literature.
    • Thursdays, 5:30-6:30 pm
  • Sinfonietta Orchestra$100 per semester. Students must have a good foundation of correct instrument posture and bow hold, consistent intonation (playing in tune), playing with good tone, and comfort with reading Grade 2 (UIL prescribed music list) orchestral literature.
    • Thursdays, 5:30-6:30 pm
  • Level 1 Harp: $100 per semester. Students will be instructed on a scaled down folk harp under the direction of intructor Anne Lehman. Contact Anne at annelehman.harp@gmail.com for exact details on instrument purchase and rentals. Private or Small Pod Lessons required.
    • Wednesdays, 5:00-6:00 pm

The format for the String Project Private Lesson and Small Pod program will be as follows:

  • Private Lessons$110 per semester. Ten (10) 30 minute private lessons per semester; 1 recital per year.
  • Small Pod Lessons$75 per semester. Ten (10) 45 minute pod (4 or fewer students) lessons per semester; 1 recital per year.

For Instrument Rentals, there will be a few instruments at UNT for rent $75 per year. Otherwise we will always partner with Crossroads-based The Luthier Shop.
